The Cedars: Support and Past and Shape the Future

In the heart of the Adelaide Hills is The Cedars, the beautiful, historic home and property of renowned Australian artists Sir Hans Heysen, daughter Nora Heysen and their family. The Cedars stands as one of the nation’s most significant artistic and cultural landmarks. For over a century, this heritage property in Hahndorf has embodied the Heysen family’s deep connection to art, culture and nature. It was here that Hans created his iconic gum tree landscapes and Nora grew to become the first woman to win the Archibald Prize and be appointed Australia's first official war artist. Their dedication to creativity, conservation, and education continues to inspire visitors today.

This Giving Day to the Arts, we invite you to be part of the living legacy of Hans and Nora Heysen by supporting this treasured cultural and heritage destination.

Every contribution helps us preserve the Heysen legacy, care for the property’s heritage buildings and art collections, and share the inspiration of this remarkable place with future generations.

As a not for profit organisation with no ongoing government funding, The Cedars relies on the generosity of its visitors and supporters. Your donation directly supports:

  • The conservation of Heysen artworks, collections, heritage listed artist studios, historic buildings and the Artist Garden

  • Environmental care of 150 acres of native bushland, bought by The Heysens for its protection

  • Public access and education through exhibitions, tours, and events

  • Creative programs that inspire artists, students, and visitors alike

Every dollar makes a difference. Together, we can ensure The Cedars continues to thrive as a vibrant place of art, heritage and inspriation for all.
