The Artist's Walk

The Artist's Walk at The Cedars is a captivating trail that invites visitors to step into the very landscapes that inspired Hans Heysen's iconic works. This scenic path meanders through the picturesque grounds of the property, leading to various spots where Heysen set up his easel to paint the majestic gum trees, rolling hills, and rural vistas that define his legacy.

Along the walk, you'll find podiums that mark the exact locations where some of his most famous paintings were created, offering a unique opportunity to see the landscape through the artist's eyes. The Artist's Walk not only showcases the natural beauty of the area but also provides a deep connection to Heysen's artistic process, allowing visitors to experience the same sights and atmospheres that fueled his creative spirit. As you follow in the footsteps of one of Australia's greatest landscape painters, the walk becomes more than just a journey through nature; it becomes a journey into the heart of Heysen's art.

**Please note that The Artist's Walk is about a 1.5km walk over sometimes uneven and sloping ground. Enclosed shoes are recommended at all times of the year as well as a hat and sunscreen in the warmer months. Those not wishing to complete the walk can take a more gentle stroll to the Shady Pool, one of Heysen's most loved spots.

The Cedars acknowledges the Peramangk people as the Traditional Custodians of this land, whose deep connection to nature and storytelling continues to inspire art and culture. We pay respect to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
